The Rolex Day Date is the flagship of the Rolex Models. The Day Date is also known as the Rolex President as it has adorned the wrist of several former presidents such as Dwight D. Eisenhower, Lyndon B. Johnson, Gerald Ford, and allegedly Jack Kennedy (but it is really unknown whether he ever wore one). The mechanics of the watch are as follows. It has the 3155 movement which is a 31 jewel movement that beats at 28,800 beats per hour (bph) and I can say the watch is very accurate. It has a small complication of automatically changing the day of the week, and the date each night. The movement is completely made in house by Rolex and is of course a superlative chronometer officially certified by the Swiss Authorities. The movement is housed in only gold or in this case platinum. The gold comes in 18kt yellow, pink, or white gold. The platinum is .950 parts pure per ounce. This particular watch comes with the coveted and only available on the platinum president, glacier blue roman numeral dial, which is not quite blue but a light shade or ice blue dial (it sometimes will look silver) and changes with the concentration of light. It is really pretty. The crown (with one dot) is made of course made of platinum as well as the case, and the President bracelet.

The watch case is 36mm and is a great size for the average wrist. The watch is water resistant to 330 feet or 100 meters. To wash the watch I just use some dish soap and clean it with water. The watch is durable, and hard to ding unlike gold. I have a few gold watches and they are easier to scratch or ding. The watch is part of quest with trades and purchases of other fine Makers such as Patek Philippe.

Since I was about eight I wanted a Rolex President. My father was somewhat of a watch nut, but not nearly as big of a watch nut as I am. I dreamed of the Rolex Platinum President and would see the watch only in Las Vegas hidden in a locked case under cameras and not coming out to play. I never thought I would have the $47250 current retail price or ability to spend that type of money on a watch. Although I didn't pay the retail price it was quite an achievement to be able to buy this watch. I also wanted at times a Submariner and I have owned a Datejust, and have a daily beater of a Tiger Tudor Chrograph which is a really nice watch. When I wear the watch it doesn't get noticed as much as a gold watch, but it is of course a Rolex and when I do wear it will get noticed.

The watch is heavy. My watch weighs 220 grams or over 7 ounces of heft. You can really feel this watch on your arm. It is important to note that platinum is one of the rarest metals and precious of metals. It is naturally a lustourious pure white and a shad different than white gold. Platinum is actually 35 times rarer than gold. It takes 10 tons of ore to produce just one ounce of platinum v. 1 ton for gold. It is 60% more dense than gold.
