Kinetic watches differ from other watch formats in that they gain power through wrist motion, which turns oscillating weights inside of the watch assembly. In 1986, Seiko was the first watch company to develop this platform of watches able to convert kinetic energy into electrical energy. Instructions

Use your watch screwdriver to remove any screws connecting the Seiko kinetic watch to the wristband. Set the wristband aside.

Turn your watch upside and remove the back plate by gripping the sides of the back plate and rotating counter-clockwise. The back plate will unscrew easily from the Seiko kinetic watch. Set the back plate aside, separate from the wristband.

Remove the gasket securing the Seiko kinetic watch's machinery to the face plate with a pair of tweezers. Use the tweezers, and not your hands, to rotate any of the delicate machinery needed to free the gasket. Place the gasket with the back plate.

Remove the screw pin from the side of the watch. Use your tweezers to hold the watch in place and pull the pin with your fingers. Place the pin with the other interior watch materials.

Use your tweezers to remove the rest of the interior watch machinery from the glass watch face plate. Be careful not to obstruct any moving parts, as the timing mechanism will still be running, or to break any smaller instruments. Place the face plate with the other interior watch materials.

Remove the hour and minute hand from the front of the Seiko kinetic watch's interior assembly with tweezers.

Place the rest of the watch's interior assembly upside-down into a pin vice to secure. Use your watch screwdriver to remove small screws from the back of the watch. Remove the interior assembly from the vice and place it so that you can see the watch plate. Place the screws aside with the wristband.

Remove the watch plate, and any additional plates underneath, with your tweezers. Place all timekeeping plates removed in this way with the other interior watch materials.

Continue dismantling your Seiko kinetic watch until all screws and removable parts have been separated. This will vary based on your model of Seiko watch. Place all screws aside into the wristband area, while other machinery should be placed with the interior watch materials.

Cleaning

Fill your ultrasonic cleaner with filtered water. Place interior watch materials inside of the ultrasonic cleaner. Wash only a few pieces at a time to protect delicate pieces from contacting each other and breaking during cleaning.

Initiate the cleaning cycle on your ultrasonic cleaner. Remove interior watch materials from the ultrasonic cleaner after the cleaning cycle has finished. Empty the remaining water from your ultrasonic cleaner after all interior watch materials have been removed.

Place the interior watch materials in a container filled with a cleaning naphtha solution. Remove after one minute. Inspect all materials for excess dirt or grime. Clean any grime off with a small, soft brush. Place any scrubbed materials back into the cleaning naphtha and remove after a half minute.

Place interior watch materials on a white sheet of paper after removing them from the cleaning naphtha. Separate all pieces on the paper for faster drying.

Fill your ultrasonic cleaner with fresh filtered water. Place the wristband and any screws inside of the ultrasonic cleaner. Don't worry about keeping cleaning loads small, as the wristband and screws will not break through contact during cleaning.

Initiate the cleaning cycle on your ultrasonic cleaner. Remove the wristband and screws from the ultrasonic cleaner after the cleaning cycle has finished. Empty the remaining water left in the ultrasonic cleaner after all pieces have been removed.

Place wristband and screws inside of the container filled with cleaning naptha. Let them sit for one minute. Inspect all pieces for excess dirt or grime. Clean any grime off with a small, soft brush. Place any scrubbed pieces back into the cleaning naphtha, and remove after a half minute.

Place wristband and screws on a white sheet of paper after removing them from the cleaning naphtha. Separate all pieces for faster drying. Use an additional sheet of paper if more space is required.

Allow all pieces to sit for at least three hours to ensure that they have dried properly.
