This 2009 at Baselworld, Blancpain has unveiled new sophisticated timepieces to join the brand’s highly successful L-Evolution collection. The Blancpain L-Evolution Moon Phase 8 Jours watch, along with other new models of the collection, boasts a newly designed case, 43.5mm in diameter, with a modular construction to allow the watch owner detach the lugs and easily substitute a strap or a bracelet. The case is sculptured in 18K red gold or stainless steel. The case construction incorporates a screw-down winding crown and is 100-meter water-resistant.

The timepiece demonstrates the complete calendar with moon phase complication (the triple calendar). The moon phase complication greatly contributed to the revival of mechanical watchmaking in the 1980s and helped the brand win the hearts of fine mechanisms’ lovers. In 1983, Blancpain introduced the legendary moon-phase Calibre 6395 which lead to the renaissance of the mechanical watch industry.

The Blancpain L-evolution Moon Phase 8 Jours watch is animated by Calibre 66R9, a brand-new self-winding movement that drives the sophisticated moon-phase, complete calendar and power-reserve indications. The movement has been designed and manufactured by the Manufacture in Le Brassus.

The new caliber has maintained traditional elements, having yet acquired new features. The classic complete calendar is displayed in the traditional manner, with the rotating moon phase indicator is found at 6 o'clock together with the small seconds. The date is indicated by a central pointer hand, while the day and month apertures are featured below 12 o'clock.

The Blancpain Calibre 66R9 incorporates a newly designed calendar-adjustment mechanism to allow safe adjustment of the displays any time it is required, as well as a freely sprung balance wheel having micrometric adjustment screws on the inner rim. The regulating organ has been produced from titanium, the material highly appreciated by the Blancpain watchmakers for its low weight, high resistance to differences in temperature and magnetism.

The beauty of the movement is revealed through a flat sapphire crystal window in the screw-down case back. The Blancpain 66R9 demonstrates chamfered bridge edges, Cotes Paraboliques decorative pattern, and a centrally positioned rotor in 18K gold.

The sophisticated dark grey three-dimensional dial of the Blancpain L-Evolution Moon Phase 8 Jours watch demonstrates vertical Cotes-de-Geneve pattern, and two oversized Roman numerals at 3 and 9 o'clock. Right above the numerals you will notice cutouts showing off the rotating discs for the day and month displays.

The sword-like hands and the hour markers are crafted in polished gold and provided with Superluminova coating to offer ideal readability even under no-light conditions. The dial is shielded by a curved sapphire crystal.
